Search Engine Optimisation
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is a process whereby a site is modified so that it receives more favourable results when people search for terms related to the website using search engines. Search engine optimisation can help improve the amount of traffic a site receives, in some cases exponentially increasing the amount of visitors looking at the site, for this reason search engine optimisation can be extremely useful for businesses looking to improve the search rankings of its customers, and thereby increasing its customer base.
Search engine optimisation works by change certain aspects of a websites design, such as improving the frequency and quality of keywords found within the site as well as changing headings, meta tags and other related aspects of the website design to improve the performance of the website in searches made by the public. Search engine optimisation will also improve the way in which the site is linked to other sites, and will try and promote a stronger network of links between related sites, so as to improve search engine rankings.
Search engine optimisation can be done by a sites webmaster, however the complexity and varied methods that different search engines use to rank the relevance of websites to search terms, is such that it can be very difficult for an individual to achieve. Search engine optimisation can also be a time consuming process and many webmasters will simply not have time to optimise their site.
